800x600 Up for auction is this Skaneateles, New York Obsolete Banknote. This note was payable at “Mechanics Bank, Syracuse at Skaneateles, New York”. This note is unsigned. The note was monetized on November 1, 1862. The overall size of this note is: 2-1/8 “ tall x 5-1/8” wide. This note can be found in the book “New York State Script and Private Issues” by Gordon L. Harris. The catalog number for this note is: Harris #H27, and the note is listed as a RARITY - 4 with 26 – 50 notes known. The Serial Number of this note is: 6774 This Banknote is printed in 2 Colors, Pink overall (almost completely faded) and Black, and the Security Banknote Printer listed on the note is: Latimer Brothers & Seymour, Engr. New York. The central vignette depicts a Farmer atop a Hay Wagon with two Farmers below and a Cow at the left, there is a Steam Train in the Background. The larger left vignette is Liberty with Pole and Shield. There is a 15 Cents in cartouche @ upper right. "Fifteen Cents" at far left border in fancy lathe work. The reverse of this note is unprinted. Don’t let this RARE 15 Cent Obsolete Script note get away. This Banknote has a 1-1/8” long x 1-1/8” piece missing at the left side margin. There is 1 hairline split running through “Pay To The” just below the Bank Title, and it also measures about 1-1/8” long and is almost completely closed up. These defects are all very common on a circulated Obsolete Banknote that is 160+ years old with this very thin paper. I grade this note as a Very Fine – but netting it down to a Good because of the missing piece. Please look the scans over carefully and judge the quality of the note for yourself before bidding!
