Lansley opened this school in Rutland, VT in 1864 before moving it to Poultney in 1866 and was still in business after the turn of the century. This $500 note is an unlisted denomination in the Schingoethe college currency catalog and is believed to be very rare. The note depicts a passenger train flanked by a portrait of the school's founder at lower left and a vignette of a girl shading her eyes with a lighthouse in the distance at lower right. A red 500 protector is at bottom center and a decorative green back details information about the school. The note has a few small stains and a couple of internal slits that do not overly distract. A wonderful and highly collectable rare piece of obsolete currency.
