A little bit on the notes: The Depression Scrip issued by Elmer’s Stamp and Coin Shop in 1933 was a form of local currency created during the Great Depression. During that time, many people were struggling with extreme economic hardship, and conventional currency was often scarce or distrusted. Elmer’s Stamp and Coin Shop, based in Toledo, Ohio, issued these scrip notes as a way to provide a form of money that could be used within the local community. These scrip notes were not official government currency but were accepted by local businesses as a substitute for cash. They were essentially a form of emergency money meant to facilitate transactions when traditional currency was in short supply. Scrip like this was common in various parts of the U.S. during the Great Depression, as communities and businesses sought creative solutions to deal with the financial instability of the time. These notes were typically backed by a promise to redeem them for goods or services, but their value was generally limited to the local area where they were issued. Thanks for visiting my page.
